GUIDELINES
JOIN OUR DISCORD SERVER TO PLAY THE GAME!
GUIDELINES
A - LDE is an 18+ server. By agreeing to these rules & joining our community you are confirming you are of age.
B - A clear, working mic is required. If you require accommodations due to IRL hearing/speech impairment or for some other legitimate reason please open a ticket to explain & we will try to find a solution or make an exception.
C - Push-to-talk (PTT) required both in-game and in Discord voice channels. Do not hot mic or spam music etc. Appropriate sound effects, original or royalty-free music are encouraged. Voice changers are allowed within reason but should have some kind of RP reasoning behind them and fit the character.
D - For the sake of our content creators we follow standard Twitch & Discord TOS. Slurs, hate speech, or the posting of graphic content is not allowed.
E - Do not spam, self-promote or “flame bait” with incendiary or divisive topics (politics etc). A Discord channel is provided for content creators to announce when they are live.
F - Rape/Sexual Assault RP of any kind is strictly forbidden. Stalking behaviour or continued unwanted advances towards another player will be grounds for removal from the community. If another user is making you uncomfortable in this way please report it immediately.
A - NAMES: Characters must have a somewhat realistic name. Famous persons or fictional character names are prohibited. Example: Do not use a name like “Oliver Klozof”, “Tupac Shakur”, “Omar Little”, or nicknames like “Lil Homie”. If you are having difficulties deciding on a name consider visiting Easy Random Name Picker or another name generator for inspiration.
B - AGE: Like our players, characters also must be 18 or older.
C - CHARACTER BLEED: While we encourage players to RP multiple characters, they must have no connection in-game. Transferring money, property or information between any of them is power/metagaming. Do not make multiple characters from the same organization, family, WL job or other organization.
D - CORRUPTION: You can play a high-ranking listed organization member or law enforcement character, but not both. If you wish to RP both a criminal and law enforcement at the same time you will be limited to a street soldier/beat cop level of advancement, respectively. Even so you will be expected to keep both characters separated & may be excluded from certain content on one or both at staff discretion. Business owners are allowed & even encouraged to commit crimes if that’s within their character but should be prepared for the consequences if caught, including the likely loss of that business and property. Using any specially-provided game mechanics that may come with a whitelisted business or position for this purpose is not allowed. EMS or PD/DOJ corruption arcs require prior staff approval. Even if approved, expect to lose your job & worse when caught.
E - DEFINED CHARACTERS: Please consider their specific interests or skills when making decisions. We encourage you to RP a unique character with flaws and a limited knowledge of the overall game world as well as our game mechanics. For example, a drug-dealing, real estate agent, bank-robbing, street-racing gang member is probably a self-insert, not a unique character. Better to start a new character with different goals or background instead of trying to be everything at once.
F - PERMADEATH: Killing off a character is always your decision, but consider having “perma conditions” under which they may risk dying (examples: only by fire, shot multiple times by a specific rival, racing, eaten by shark, etc.) Other players may only force a permadeath through a previously agreed on “contract kill” (CK) in a staff ticket - this will typically be limited to listed (“official”) organizations. Notorious violent criminals should have an ultimate end-game in mind; retirement, life in prison, or death. When you are ready for a character to die please RP with EMS (/me no pulse). Allow time for any ongoing scenes or broader story arcs to process the character death (funeral, autopsy etc). Please do not simply delete active characters involved in other player’s scenes/stories without any RP!
G - If you wish to leave a will, it must be entered into record with a lawyer at least one IRL month before permadeath. You may not name one of your own characters as beneficiary, nor leave assets to a 3rd party with the intent of returning them to you under a different character. Repeatedly making new characters with identical arcs or affiliations to avoid RP consequences is powergaming.
H - SEMI-REALISM: Supernatural/superhero-type characters are not allowed without prior approval from staff. While we may choose to allow this on a very limited basis or for particular events this is not a superhero MMO, Animal Crossing or vampire novel. Characters are expected to be semi-realistic persons, using any of the above as an excuse to bend rules or force special consideration from other players is powergaming. Your character is free to think they are a giraffe, ghost or The Green Lantern with the understanding they are in fact delusional and may be treated as such by others.
I - MASKS: You may not wear any of the masks as your “real” face without staff approval. Masks should only be used to conceal your identity when engaged in criminal activity or for other specific RP reasons (EMS, Sanitation, motorcycle racing, painting etc). They should not otherwise be worn as standard everyday clothing. Instead, consider things like changing your hair & usual style of dress to disguise your identity for longer periods.
J - UNIQUE MODELS: Peds or animal models also require staff approval. Be prepared to submit a backstory & answer a few questions as we intend to lock most of these to one player at a time..
A - TOXIC BEHAVIOR: Everyone is presumably here to enjoy organic roleplay. If not, you are in the wrong place! However we should keep in mind we all share something in common; we love RP! So with that in mind there is no need to be toxic inside this community. Let’s try to influence people to take everything in stride and enjoy roleplay for what it is. A1 - Remember whatever happens to your character - good & bad - is not happening to you personally. Be a good sport & understand the difference between IC and OOC behavior. Taking incriminating photos to post to social media for the sole purpose of gloating over winning a PvP scene is one example of toxic behavior. Respect your opps! Without law or opposing criminal groups you have no scene to begin with. Roleplay does not have winners and losers.
B - STAY IN CHARACTER: To that end, players are required to stay in character at all times. If you witness a rulebreak or bug please report it ASAP but continue to RP in-game to the best of your abilities. We understand that IRL can interfere; the cat might jump on your keyboard or a hot mic may pick up the dog barking. This is not our main concern. For example, we understand that everyone at some point may accidentally use an OOC term like “server” instead of “city”. What we do not want are OOC chat sessions, aka “circle RP” discussing what we’re having for dinner or other “in my head/dreams” -type talk. This is not the place for that! We have provided Discord channels for our community to have these kinds of respectful, friendly real-world conversations. While in-game we expect you to engage in RP as a character, not an avatar. Do not threaten to report someone IC or make other references to server rules. Open a ticket and try to continue with your RP.
B1 - This rule also applies to dealing with game bugs. For example, a local car may suddenly spawn in front of you during a high speed chase. You should continue to RP this as you would any other accident and carry on rather than letting it interrupt the scene, no matter how it may have affected the outcome. This still means both sides in a conflict should do their best to minimize the impact of bugs/”scuff” rather than capitalize on it to their advantage.
C - FEAR FOR LIFE/NVL: Part of playing a character rather than an avatar is showing reasonable fear for one’s life. This includes obeying orders when held at gunpoint as well as not drawing a gun if held at knifepoint. If your character chooses to take such risks you should have a clear explanation as to why (they lowered their weapon or were distracted, were outnumbered, etc) In any case your goal should typically be escaping the situation if you get the chance rather than escalating.
C1 - While some risk is inherent in a car chase or other scenarios, do not engage in stunt driving that would realistically result in almost certain death (eg, some of the freeway jumps from GTA). Do not shoot or stab your friends as a joke or have “paintball wars”. Attacking a police station that is meant to be staffed by dozens of heavily armed officers is also considered NVL - “not valuing life”. We do not want to limit your RP but if you wish to do something that may cross the line for a specific scenario please be prepared to explain your reasoning. Better yet, open a ticket and we may be able to help set the scene!
D - RDM/VDM: Random/vehicle deathmatch means engaging in combat or hitting someone with a vehicle without a valid roleplay reason. If someone is trying to block your car that does not mean you can’t run them over! However, using a vehicle as a weapon to initiate combat is prohibited - valuing your life would mean trying to escape in such a scenario. Combat with another player should be the result of an escalating conflict, baiting someone with petty insults just to find an excuse for PvP will be considered RDM. Combat typically ends an RP scene. Find ways to extend that scene so that the eventual gunfight or brawl has meaning and advances the story of everyone involved. This rule also applies to interacting with locals/NPCs! Don’t do things like drive on the sidewalk or punch random peds for no reason.
E - COOLDOWN: After engaging in combat with another player or committing major crimes, please allow at least one hour before committing another or entering further combat. Give the story time to breathe, be willing to “take the L” & move on, whether you choose to resolve or escalate the conflict. Repeatedly waiting for cooldowns to rob the same location or commit identical crimes is not allowed. At the same time, you are not expected to avoid chance encounters that may occur due to RP. Major heists will involve multiple players so we expect you to use these mechanics creatively. Do not use the exact same plans or strategies repeatedly.
F - BAITING: Baiting or luring others into conflict for no RP reason is not allowed. As always we encourage you to be creative but there are plenty of good ways to engage PD in a scenario or chase. This also applies to law enforcement, if you want to catch criminals do the RP as police work, set up a sting or bait car for example. Do not repeatedly antagonize any opposing characters or groups simply out of boredom.
G - METAGAMING: Any information your character gains must be acquired while in character. This prohibits using Discord calls, streaming, or other OOC platforms for communication. The only exception is when using Discord channels specifically provided for WL jobs or other groups for things that can’t be easily handled in-game. Still, hold your meetings in character at your business or HQ & use radios! We will try to provide the tools to help you use Discord as little as possible.
G1 - Do not “meta dump” other characters and provide too much information too quickly. Expect locations or certain game mechanics to change as they are discovered by law enforcement. Keeping these things a secret will benefit your character or group.
H - POWERGAMING: Do not use game mechanics or limitations to your advantage. For example, identifying a player among “locals” or by using a billing app from your phone. This also includes disconnecting to avoid arrest or other scenes. Do not use fast travel locations or a garage to escape pursuit, avoid arrest, robbery or other RP. Do not use /me or other means to try to force another character’s actions or gain the upper hand in a scenario. You may not cancel or override scripted emotes for an action or to avoid timers & skill checks.
I - ACTIVE PARTICIPATION: Players are expected to engage with one another & only avoid RP due to other in-character obligations. Roleplay is a collaborative process that requires us to sometimes be an extra in another character’s scene. Your willingness to play a supporting role ensures others will be more inclined to do the same for you. While you may not always prefer someone else’s style of RP, do your best to respect it and participate when you do find yourself involved.
J - MEDICAL RP: Roleplay your injuries accordingly. We understand that game bugs can sometimes cause injuries to happen with no realistic cause, however you should still RP them with EMS if they respond & carry on with any ongoing scene. Call it a peanut allergy or bad knee if you must but do not expect EMS to revive you without providing any roleplay.
J1 - If an injury requires transport to a hospital, whether via “local” (respawn) or by EMS/SAR, your character is subject to the same one hour “Cooldown” above. This means you should not seek out further conflict or purposely engage in risky activities such as racing or violent crime. This doesn’t mean you have to sit in your apartment for an hour by any means but please RP with your injured status in mind for at least the minimum 1 hour.
A - GROUP SIZE: Criminal activity and combat are limited to “4+1” allied players, meaning 4 directly involved plus one extra accomplice. This 5th person is meant to serve as a driver, lookout, hacker or other non-combatant. They may be armed but should return fire only if individually fired upon. They should never be used as a sniper or as part of an ambush.
A1 - You may not ally with other groups to commit crimes, engage in combat or attack a common enemy. Allies may pass along information but should not be actively coordinating to hunt someone together in multiple groups or act as lookouts for one another.
A2 - An organization HQ or business is exempt from these group limits when attacked at their location. Group limits do not apply at events or other public locations where an organization might gather for RP purposes or when traveling together peacefully, however they still may not initiate combat or commit crime while there in groups larger than 5..
B - LAW ENFORCEMENT: Police & other DOJ characters are still subject to group limits, but these are scenario-dependent and may have other conditions unique to their organization. This flexibility is meant to preserve game balance while reflecting the size and scope of a modern justice system. Do not expect to “wipe PD”. However, in all cases law enforcement are expected to provide their adversaries with a fighting chance. They will be restricted by time limits & different factors in ways that others are not. We hope this will preserve the challenge of criminal activities while evolving to meet new threats & keep the risk involved with different crimes dynamic and fresh.
B1 - If you feel you were met with an unreasonable amount of force or police response you may either contact a lawyer IC or later suggest a change via ticket OOC. Do not argue police SOPs, accuse them of rule breaks or reference other meta/OOC information. You are otherwise free to resist arrest, be an unruly prisoner, insult them (jokingly) or argue your innocence. Threats may be met with further criminal charges but are up to you to risk. We require everyone to respect the players behind the characters regardless of how you choose to RP your interactions.
C - GRIEFING: Do not repeatedly rob or attack the same character or group outside of a mutually-agreed upon scenario or RP conflict. Even in situations such as an organization war the belligerent groups are required to observe the COOLDOWN rule. You may not hold someone hostage for longer than 20 minutes without their consent. Dumping bodies is allowed but should fit the RP & not be a regular occurrence every time you win a fight. The 20 minute rule still applies when transporting a body.
D - 3rd PARTY: Do not insert yourself or involve your organization or group in an active conflict or crime scene you did not initiate. Your goal should be to remove yourself from the situation or take cover until it is safe to do so. You may call 911 or warn others to stay away. Don’t attempt to act as a vigilante, relay information to active participants, or rescue someone from a scenario you were not involved in. Once the situation is resolved and one party has fled you may render medical assistance or transport someone to care. Do not interfere with EMS/SAR or law enforcement on scene.
E - ROBBERY: Robbing other players is very much allowed but mugging random people should not be a central part of your character’s RP. You may not “pocket wipe” someone, have a solid RP reason for what you steal. Typically this would include cash, valuables, weapons & communications devices like phones/radio/trackers. Robbing new characters or stealing ID, documents or other items without some RP purpose & reasoning will be considered GRIEFING.
F - 6th POCKET: The 6th inventory slot is meant for representing small items hidden somewhere on your person. This could be a small quantity of contraband, tracker, bug or other item that would not be discovered without a thorough search. Players are expected to ignore such items in this inventory location.
G - INTERACTION: When robbing or committing crimes against other players you are expected to provide RP in exchange out of respect for the player. Do not simply shout “hands up” and run someone’s pockets without further interaction. This also applies to hostage-taking & other crimes, do not treat player hostages like you would NPCs or a game mechanic. Keep them engaged and involved in the scene. Being taken hostage for an armed robbery should not feel like a boring ride in a taxi! Remember you have a 20 minute window in which to initiate the crime. If the scenario is going to take longer you must obtain their permission via OOC chat.
G1 - Do not commit crimes against players while obviously inside a clothing menu, stuck in an emote or animation, or while incapacitated by other game mechanics. This is powergaming.
H - PROPERTY CRIMES: Robbing another player’s home, vehicle, business or other inventories beyond their person without sufficient RP buildup or reasoning is also considered griefing. Rules as to what items you can take are no different than for robbing a player. Beyond that, you are limited to what your group can carry in one load. Your goal should be to grab what you can and escape, not make multiple trips to clean out someone’s inventory entirely. Please allow a full IRL 2 weeks or more between robberies of a home or business. You should attempt to tax the victim for “protection” or otherwise resolve the issue via some reasonable trade or payoff instead of repeatedly robbing the same individuals or organizations.
